Other Volunteer Opportunities
Educational Surrogates (also court appointed) work with children focusing specifically on educational issues. Volunteers can also help teens successfully prepare for emancipation (living on their own), graduate from high school, obtain their GED (General Education Diploma), or get into college. Volunteers have contact with the children at least once each month and write court reports concerning the youth’s educational progress, but are not required to attend court hearings.
Educational Surrogates:
- enjoy investigating legal issues;
- have a powerful role in the decision-making process;
- are able to see the results of their efforts in a child’s life quickly;
- and make a commitment of 12 months.
Case Assessment Program (CAP) Volunteer:
Case Assessors review court files to assess and monitor cases to assist in determining the level and type of service needed by each child. Volunteers compile data regarding the health and well-being of foster children and help match children with appropriate services. Volunteers needed as at the main juvenile court at 2851 Meadow Lark Drive, as well as Chula Vista, Vista, and El Cajon. CAPs:
- are intelligent, meticulous, independent, curious and analytical;
- enjoy reading, investigating, and advising;
- make a commitment of 6 months.

Office Assistant:
To help staff answer the phone, copy, fax, help with bulk mail, file, type, label, stamp, sort and more. Computer skills are not necessary. Training: On-the job training. Time Commitment: 3-4 hour shifts preferred. Office Hours: M-F, 8:00-5:00.
