Makua, Friends of Voices for Children, is a San Diego based organization dedicated exclusively to supporting Voices for Children in its essential mission to represent the interests of the approximately eight thousand abused and neglected children throughout San Diego County

Makua furthers the goals of Voices for Children by several means, including:

  • Financially: through an annual fundraising event
  • Informatively: by enlightening the public about the needs of, as well as the resources available through Voices for Children
  • Actively: by providing member volunteers to assist Voices for Children in accomplishing its goals

Makua was formed in 1953 by a group of San Diego women committed to assisting and promoting the objectives of Children’s Home Society. Since 2004, Makua has dedicated itself solely to supporting Voices for ChildrenFor more information on the history of Makua, please click here!

Makua’s Active Members number up to forty-five. In addition to its active members, Makua also recognizes more than two hundred local women, Patronesses, who provide ongoing financial contributions to Makua.  Patronesses are initially welcomed at an annual tea, and honored at a luncheon each spring. For information on becoming an Active Member or Patroness, please click here.

Makua holds an annual fundraising event in the summer which benefits Voices for Children.  For event information and/or tickets, please click here.
