Training - What Kind Will I Need?
Voices for Children offers all of the training you need to perform your new volunteer role. Our training is called Advocate University. Our next training begins Saturday, July 26, 2008. To be admitted into training your application must be received by July 18, 2008. Training hours
Court Appointed Special Advocates and Monitors receive 35 hours of classroom training. Educational Surrogates receive 29 hours of classroom training. Case Assessors receive 12 hours of classroom training. Volunteers working directly with children are required to attend a session of juvenile dependency court. A visit to a social service agency is also required.Training is offered every 6 weeks, and there are usually 2-3 classes scheduled each week. You can complete the entire training program within 4 weeks. Classes are typically offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5:30 pm. and Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 am. Your actual training time depends on the volunteer position you choose. Because many children are on a waiting list, we urge you to finish as soon as possible.
