Who are the "The Real Word"?"The Real Word" is a group of courageous young people who live or have lived in the foster care system in San Diego County and are available to tell their very real stories of tragedy and triumph. Members of "The Real Word" have spent years in this system, often moving
from foster home to foster home, without ever knowing the comforts of a permanent home.
Members of "The Real Word" were originally placed in the foster care system because their parents were unable to care for them or failed to protect them from abuse and neglect.
Voices for Children and "The Real Word""The Real Word" panel members have been assigned a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) who speaks for them when the courts have had to make decisions about their lives—helping them locate foster homes, making sure their education is on track or asking for funding for clothing and medical care.
Community EducationPlease help us educate the community about the serious issues that surround San Diego’s abused and neglected children. Our teen speakers are eager to tell their stories. If your group would like to hear from "The Real Word" call Voices for Children at 858 569-2096, ext. 5226 or email Sabrina Goosby. |
